Terroir and Vines

La Gayolle Wine Estate

The establishment of the vineyard

Ideally located in Green Provence, Le Domaine La Gayolle is hidden in the heart of the Provençal countryside.

The vineyard extends over an area of about 70 hectares, at an altitude of 210 meters and is located at the foot of the Montagne de La Loube (827 m).

The protective role of this mountain should not be neglected as it allows us to fight against episodes of frost and hail in winter and guarantees freshness to our vines during the hot summer temperatures.

We benefit from a Mediterranean climate with a continental tendency characterized by fairly harsh winters and hot, dry summers which allows us the elaboration of wines possessing both aromatic concentration and a pleasant minerality.

The terroir

Planted on clay-limestone soil, our vines are classified under the AOP Coteaux Varois en Provence appellation and give life to wines that best express the characteristics of this rich terroir: structure in the mouth, freshness, and very diversified aromatic profiles.

The presence of the Caramy, a beautiful Provencal river that crosses the property, guarantees the vines to have water reserves throughout the year and to cope with periods of drought. The roots draw from its crystalline waters, giving the grapes a unique vitality.

Terroir of the AOP “Coteaux Varois en Provence”, the vineyard produces wines combining freshness and concentration, lightness and aromatic complexity, thus reflecting the ancestral know-how of the family Domaine de la Gayolle.

All the ingredients are there to allow us the creation of wines expressing all the typicity of our terroir.

Our approach

At Le Domaine La Gayolle, we are fortunate to be able to work every day in a peaceful, living place rich in resources, far from noise and pollution.

7th generation, Nicolas Paul was not yet 30 years old when he took over the management of Le Domaine La Gayolle in 2010.

Today, the challenge for this passionate winemaker is to carry out work that combines the knowledge of his land and new winemaking techniques, while getting as close as possible to a viticulture that is responsible and respectful for the environment and future generations.

How? Thanks to the observation of nature and the experimentation of the principles of biodiversity and agroforestry: planting several trees such as pistachios, truffle oaks, fruit hedges for the reintroduction of species in their natural environment but also to attract insects that feed on vine parasites…

Today our most important mission is to transmit all these values related to biodiversity to future generations in order to move towards a viticulture of the living.

All these actions have earned Le Domaine La Gayolle the “High Environmental Value” HVE label of the third level, a label that translates into the promise of an agriculture that respects life.
